No recommendation to demolish Fate shops in Ilorin - Director-General
Alhaji Ibrahim Salman, the Director-General of Bureau of Lands in Kwara, has denied reports that shops beside Government Secondary School (GSS), Ilorin, had been recommended for demolition.
Salman refuted the allegation while speaking with newsmen on Thursday in Ilorin.
The director general said that he was not aware of any visits by the regulators where such recommendations were made, adding that bureau had a standing inspection team to ensure safety of projects.
According to him, the only structure that was discovered to be defective has been demolished and no other shops collapsed during construction. "The truth of the situation is that there is no such report by any organisation for the demolition of government structures at Fate in Ilorin.
"On our part, we have tried to exhibit reasonable care to ensure that the structures are secured. "We intermittently check the integrity of the structures to assure that prescribed materials will be used," he said.
He put the cost of each of the shops at N6.5million, adding that people were paying by installments. "The beautiful thing about it is that government is not spending money on it".
