Saraki asks CCT Chairman to hands off trial
Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), Mr. Danladi Umar has again been asked to disqualify himself from the on-going false asset declaration case preferred against Senate President Bukola Saraki.
Saraki, a two term governor of Kwara State is facing trial over alleged corruption and false asset declaration. At the resumed hearing Wednesday, Mr. Umar adjourned further hearing in the fresh motion till next Tuesday 21 June, 2016.
The case was adjourned following the new motion filed on behalf of the Senate President, asking the CCT Chairman to excuse himself from the case. Saraki, in the fresh application filed by his lawyer, Kanu Agabi (SAN), accused Umar of making statements capable of being prejudicing the outcome of the trial.
The Senate President cited the reported statement by Umar, where he allegedly deplored the delay tactics being employed by Saraki's legal team and noted that the delay would not affect the consequences of the trial on the defendant if found guilty.
