The Kwara State House of Assembly has asked the state commissioner for Works and Transport, Aro Yahaya to appear before it to explain steps being taken by his ministry to address the menace of flooding in the state.

Aro's invitation formed part of the resolutions of the House, following a Matter of Urgent Public Importance on the flooding that submerged New Yidi road, Ilorin following an early morning heavy down pour yesterday, Wednesday, June 1. The matter was raised by a member representing Oke-Ogun Constituency Kamaldeen Fagbemi.

The Deputy Speaker, Mattew Okedare while reading the resolutions of the House, said the invitation of the commissioner became imperative in view of the urgent need to avert flood related disasters in the state.

The House equally directed the state Ministry of Works and Transport and the state Road Maintenance Agency to visit the flood ravaged New Yidi Road in Ilorin with a view to finding an enduring solution to the recurring flood on the road. Fagbemi, while raising the matter explained that flood had finally taken over the dual carriage road thereby, rendering the road impassable.
