Kwara FOMWAN Holds Education Summit
The Kwara State branch of the Federation of Muslim Women Associations of Nigerian (FOMWAN) has held its 2016 Annual Education Summit in Ilorin, the state capital.
Declaring the summit open, the Chairperson, FOMWAN Education Committee, Hajia Amudalat Ijaiya said that the rationale behind the programme was to strengthen the capacity of muslim ummah, to advocate quality education in line with Islamic injunction despite all challenges.
In her key note address, the deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Ilorin, Professor Sidiqat Ijaiya noted with dismay the poor funding and allocation for education by the Nigerian government.
She urged the government to increase its allocation for education to get it repositioned. "Nigeria is one of the lowest in terms of budgeting allocation to education in the World," she said.
She advised parents to change their attitude towards the education of their children, saying that many parents today, particularly women give priority to merriment than the future of their children.
Also the Provost, College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies, Ilorin Dr Musa Abdullahi in his lecture, titled "Government Educational Policies, Implementations, Challenges and Solution", called for proper implementation of education policies in the country.
He stressed the need for government to pay attention to welfare of teachers. "If all relevant stakeholders pay proper attention to education, challenges facing education will be reduced to the barest minimum."
