Kwara accords monarchs their pride of place
Saturday ,April 16,2016 will remain evergreen in the minds of the people of Irepodun, Isin and Ekiti Local Government Areas Of Kwara state.
It was a day set aside by the state government to present fourth class staff of office to Eleju of Ejuland, Sanmora,IrepodunLocal Government Area (LG), Oba Mattew idowu Ajiboye, while Onigbin of Oke-Onigbin, Isin LG,Oba (Alhaji) Kamaldeen Salahudeen and Olukoro of Koro, Ekiti LG,Oba Peter Olusegun Aremu received 3rd class staff of office respectively .
It was the day the quiet towns received one of their largest and most tumultuous crowd. Gaily dressed sons and daughters of the towns, with their friends and well wishers from various parts of the country trooped out in celebratory mood to welcome their guests. Praise singers, ewi exponents, dramatists and jesters added colour to the environment as they treated the guests to hilarious renditions.
The introduction of guests provided an opportunity for many to know the men and women of power gathered that day to put a shine to the celebrations. All the prominent citizens of the communities put heads together with members of the organizing committee and one remarkable picture presented was the palpable spirit of camaraderie and community service.
The state Deputy Governor, Elder Peter Kisira who was represented by the Commissioner for Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Alhaji Haruna Muhammad said that Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed led administration holds traditional institutions in high esteem.
He remarked that the state government has legacy of formidable traditional institutions capable of cementing the unity of the communities. The deputy governor promised that the administration would continue to accord due recognition, respect and support to traditional rulers.
He charged the traditional rulers to partner with the present administration in its resolve to reinforce social-economic reforms in the state. Elder Kisira reiterated government's commitment towards ensuring that the traditional institution was given due recognition in the scheme of governance.
"I wish to assure your royal Highness that this administration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed will continue to accord due recognition, respect and give support to the Traditional Rulers by ensuring that their welfare and comfort are given pride of place, so that they can continue to discharge their traditional responsibilities to the best of their abilities", he stated.
He also described traditional rulers as custodian of culture charged with the responsibility of promoting societal cultural development which provide basis to assess the past and compass for the future.
The Commissioner for Local Government Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Alhaji Haruna Muhammad who was represented by his permanent secretary, Alhaji Sharu Koro Mohammed called on the monarchs to continue to carry their people along in the discharge of their responsibilities to the community. He urged the communities to continue to cooperate with the traditional rulers in order to move the communities forward.
"May your reign usher in peace, progress and rapid socio-economic transformation for your communities and Kwara state in general, " he added.
In their responses, Eleju of Ejuland, Sanmora, Oba Mattew Idowu Ajiboye, Onigbin of Oke-Onigbin, ,Oba (Alhaji) Kamaldeen Salahudeen and Olukoro of Koro, Oba Peter Olusegun Aremu commended the state Governor Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed for promoting traditional institutions.
They also thanked their communities for giving them opportunities to serve, promising not to abuse the confidence reposed in them.
