Date: 2016-03-27

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested one of the three gunmen, who alleged attacked people buying petrol at a Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation filling station along Ajase Ipo Road, Ilorin, Kwara State.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Sam Okuala, who spoke through the state's Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okasanmi, on Saturday, the suspect was arrested with locally made pistol and some live cartridges. He, however, declined to name the arrested suspect to avoid jeopardising investigation.

He added that the police had intensified investigation over the issue to know the motive behind the attack and to arrest other collaborators or accomplices. Our correspondent gathered that three gunmen had stormed the filling station on Friday and opened fire on motorists and other people who had queued to buy petrol at the station.

It was learnt that after the attack, two young men and a woman sustained varying degrees of injuries during the attack.

It was gathered that the victims were later hospitalised at Yusjib Industrial Medicare, along Ajase Ipo Road.

The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Abdulraheem Yusuf, said the three victims were in stable condition. He added that one of them had been taken to a laboratory where the bullets in him would be extracted.

All efforts to speak with the management and staff of the petrol station proved abortive as they declined comment.
