Enyimba Beat Kwara United, Close In On Seventh League Title
Enyimba closed in on a record seventh Glo Premier League title following a 1-0 home win against Kwara United on Wednesday at the Enyimba Sports Stadium.
Skipper of the side Chinedu Udoji scored the only goal of the encounter in the 22nd minute off a corner kick by Ezekiel Bassey.
The Peoples Elephant have extended their lead over second placed Warri Wolves to six points. The Seasiders will take on Lobi Stars in Makurdi on Thursday.
Kwara United with the defeat now look destined for a return to the National Keague.
In Jos, Amos Gyang scored a late goal as Giwa FC twice came from a goal down to record a hard-fought 3-2 win against Wikki Tourists.
Wikki took the lead in the 10 minutes through Idris Sabo, while Salleh Mohammed restored parity for the hosts 13th minutes later.
The visitors regained the lead in the 38 th minute through Harrison Madu, while Amos Gyang equalized for Giwa three minutes before half time.
Gyang got his second of the day in added time to boost his side's chances of securing a continental ticket.
At the Sani Abacha Stadium, defending champions Kano Pillars came from a goal down to beat 10-man Rangers 2-1.
Azeez Shobowale's brace for the Sai Masu Gida rendered Bobby Clement's goal for the visitors useless at the end of proceedings.
Port Harcourt sides, Dolphins and Sharks, boosted their survival hopes as both enjoyed wins against El-Kanemi Warriors and Shooting Stars respectively.
Dolphins Ghanaian import, Godbless Asamoah, scored his ninth goal of the campaign, while Christain Welli also found the back of the net in the 2-0 win.
Sharks on the other hand rallied from a goal down to beat 3SC 2-1 at the Sharks Stadium.
Joe Nathaniel put 3SC ahead two minutes before half time with Frederick Obomate hitting a brace in the 48 and 65 minutes for the Blue Angels.
Akwa United sent Sunshine Stars back to Akure empty handed, edging out the Akure Gunners 2-1. Bayelsa United also beat Abia Warriors 1-0 courtesy of Kadiri Samad's seventh minutes strike.
IfeanyiUbah won the oriental derby against Heartland 1-0, while Taraba United and Nasarawa United could not be seperated as their game ended in a 0-0 draw.
