Bolaji Abdullahi Empowers Youths With Motorcycles, N1.8m Cash

Date: 2012-06-04

The Minister of Sports, Malam Bolaji Abdullahi, on Monday donated 11 motorcycles and cash worth N1.8 million to youths and women in his ward.

Abdullahi, who hails from Ubandawaki Ward in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara, said the gesture was part of his poverty eradication programme in the state.

The minister was represented at the presentation in Ilorin by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold.

Abdullahi explained that the distribution of motorcycles to selected youths in his ward was aimed at engaging them in a profitable venture.

The minister stressed the need for politicians to assist in alleviating poverty by coming to the aid of the less privileged in their wards and local government areas.

Earlier the state Commissioner for Energy, Alhaji Sulu-Oloje, urged beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items in order to improve their well being.

He said that the state government was making arrangements to provide more transformers to boost electricity supply in the state.

Also speaking, a PDP leader in the ward, Alhaji AbdulHamid Adi, urged other political office holders to emulate the minister by providing similar empowerment programmes for the people.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries Mr Sulu Onagun commended Abdullahi for the gesture, saying it would assist them in taking care of their families.
