Airtel to commission newly adopted school in Kwara State
Resolved to continually develop projects aimed at promoting inclusiveness and access to quality primary education for Nigerian children, leading telecoms operator, Airtel Nigeria, is set to add a primary school in Kwara to its lists of adopted schools under its Adopt-a-School CSR initiative.
The primary school located at Iyeru Okin, Offa, Kwara State, North Central Nigeria, is expected to be commissioned on Thursday 16th July next week.
Top executives from the telco, Governor of the state, Abdulfatah Ahmed, the traditional ruler of Offa, and other dignitaries and stakeholders in the education sector of Kwara are expected to grace the occasion.
Speaking on Airtel's Adopt-a-School initiative, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Mr. Segun Ogunsanya, said "Airtel remains committed to making meaningful impact in the society and touching more lives through its Adopt-a-School CSR programme among other interventions. This is a testament that, at Airtel, we are passionate to be the most loved brand in the daily lives of Nigerians."
Mr. Ogunsanya further noted that the commissioning of the newly adopted school in Kwara will mark a major milestone in the history of Airtel's CSR intervention as the initiative will now spread its positive impact to northern part of the country.
According to Airtel, the move to adopt another school under its Adopt-a-School CRS programme was motivated by its determination to boost education and provide equal opportunities for children in under-served communities across Nigeria.
The primary school in Iyeru Okin, Offa, Kwara State will jointhe four other Airtel adopted primary schools spread across Nigeria, namely Oremeji Primary School II, Ajegunle, Lagos; St. John's Primary School, Oke-Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun; Community Primary School, Amumara, Imo; Presbyterian Primary School, Ediba, Cross River State.
Over the years, Airtel has brought notable transformation to these schools by providing ultra-modern blocks of classrooms, borehole for portable water, classroom furniture and also donating items such as uniforms, bags and educational materials like books, textbooks and pens on a yearly basis.
Last year, hundreds of pupils and teachers benefited from the Airtel free eye screening exercises conducted in the adopted schools. In addition to these, several teachers in the schools have been trained by Airtel in collaboration with State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) of the various states.
