Ahmed to Explore Dedicated Areas for Fulani Herdsmen
The State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed revealed this yesterday during a meeting with the leadership and members of Miyeti Allah, the Fulani socio-political association at Government House, Ilorin.
Alhaji Ahmed said that allocating dedicated areas for Fulani to live and graze their cattle was one of several options being explored by the state government to ensure peace between herdsmen and their host communities across the state.
Governor Ahmed said that as citizens of Nigeria, Fulani have a right to live anywhere in the country provided they abide with the law and live in harmony with other citizens.
Governor Ahmed pledged to review Miyeti Allah's request for compensation for those who suffered loses in recent clashes between Fulani and farmers in the state. He however warned that the full weight of the law will be brought to bear on anyone who disrupts public order under any guise no matter their social standing.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of Miyeti Allah, Alhaji Aliyu Usman called on the state government to establish grazing reserves for Fulani herdsmen in the state in order to prevent clashes between the herdsmen and their host communities, adding that members of the association are law-abiding citizens whose only desire is to earn their living and raise the families in peace.
Alhaji Usman called on the state government to compensate those affected by recent conflicts involving members of the association and their host communities.
