I am still in PDP - Gbemi Saraki

Date: 2015-02-27

The former governorship aspirant of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Senator Gbemisola Saraki, has described as mere speculations that she was set to dump the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It will be recalled that there had been rumours doing the round, recently, that the former senator, who lost her bid for the gubernatorial ticket of the PDP, was set to dump the party, following what was described as growing differences between her and key leaders of the PDP.

The insinuation was further strengthened by her absence at the party’s presidential campaign rally in the state, which hosted President Goodluck Jonathan. She was also absent at the launch of the party’s state-wide campaign at Bode Saadu, Moro Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, on Thursday, Senator Gbemisola expressed concern that the 2015 general election has focused more on rumours and untrue stories than on real issues.

“The problem with this election is that it has been filled with rumours and counter rumours. We should make the election issue-based and not rumours,” she said, when asked for comment on the alleged planned defection.

When asked on what instruction has been passed to her followers, many of whom came to welcome her at the Ilorin airport, she said, “My followers are seasoned politicians; we are seasoned politicians. We understand the system and we know what is important. I don’t need to advise them on what to do because they know what to do and insha Allah they shall do it when the time comes.”
