Trader arraigned for causing death

A 46-year-old trader, Adewuyi David Bisi of Haffner Tinubu Square, Lagos State, who allegedly knocked down two persons on Christmas day, has been arraigned before an Ilorin Chief Magistrate Court.

Adewuyi was accused of driving dangerously and hitting two pedestrians which resulted to their death.

He was arraigned on a three-count charge of causing death by dangerous driving, driving at a speed which was dangerous and driving without due care and attention. The offences contravened Sections 23, 22 and 21 of Road Traffic Law (RTL).

According to Police First Information Report (FIR), on December 25, last year at about 5:30pm the accused drove his Mazda vehicle with registration number LAGOS EPE 894 BW drove along Taiwo Isale Road, Ilorin, in a manner which was dangerous and caused the death of Oluwaseun Odofin, 15 and Okoyemi Kodir, 10.

The deceased families have written to the court that they were not interested in prosecuting the case.

The prosecutor, Inspector James Odaodu, did not oppose the bail of the accused since the deceased families have shown no interest in the case.

The trial Chief Magistrate, Mr. Nurudeen Adeyanju discharged and acquitted the accused.
