Peaceful celebration in Kwara
There was tight security in Kwara State on Thursday as Christians celebrated the Christmas on a peaceful manner.
Punch correspondent who monitored the situation in the state observed that both undercover and uniformed security officers were deployed in many communities, especially in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
Reports from across the state indicated that the celebration was peaceful as there were no reports of violence as of the time of filling this report.
Christian faithful trooped out in large numbers to different worship places to offered thanksgiving and prayers to God.
Meanwhile, the Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Mr. Razak Atunwa, has urged Christians to use the Christmas to supplicate to God for the restoration of peace and stability in the country.
Atunwa, in his Christmas message on Thursday, said the current challenges in the country called for sober reflection and concerted efforts by all stakeholders.
He urged Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of tolerance, honesty, piety, humility and kindness of Jesus Christ to further make Nigeria a worthy place to live in.
According to him, as the nation prepares for another round of elections, politicians must place national interest above other considerations in order not to derail the nation's democracy.
He commended faithful of all religions in Kwara State for living together peacefully and enjoined them to sustain the tempo in order to pave way for accelerated development.
