Incumbent president can be defeated - Saraki
Former Governor of Kwara State and chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bukola Saraki has urged Nigerians to vote out President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 election, dismissing fears that an incumbent president cannot be defeated in Nigeria.
Saraki, the chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology, who spoke with newsmen in Ilorin, weekend, said the country's democracy had developed to the point where a non-performing incumbent president could be ousted.
He said an average Nigerian knew that President Goodluck Jonathan had performed woefully, adding that the APC through its flagbearer, retired General Mohammadu Buhari and his running mate Professor Yemi Osinbajo, would provide the needed change.
Saraki stressed that the two candidates were "all we need to restore good governance in the country".
He advised Nigerians to consider issues and not religion in electing the nation's president next year.
He said: "Tick the box; who genuinely is going to provide security or fight corruption better, President Jonathan or General Buhari? Tick the answers, and
I'm sure when you tick the answers, you will know the party to vote for. This is not about sentiments. This is about Nigeria. It is not personal. We must take this decision. What we should look toward is who can make Nigeria work. Which party is committed to doing this? I think that is what is before Nigerians. These are not individuals that are going there to make a mess but to make Nigeria better."
