Why 12 Governors Endorsed Buhari Early

Date: 2014-12-11

It has come to light that the reason for the early endorsement of the former Head of State by 12 governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was to try and create a bandwagon effect and to railroad most of the delegates into toeing the step by the governors.

Twelve governors had met in Lagos in the early hours of Wednesday and unanimously agreed to support the emergence of General Muhammadu Buhari.

THISDAY gathered that at a meeting which was said to have taken place at Adeola Odeku, Victoria Island, Lagos, 12 of the APC governors had agreed to support General Muhammadu Buhari as the presidential candidate.

The state governors are, Abdulaziz Yari (Zamfara), Ibrahim Geidam (Yobe), Kashim Shettima (Borno) , Tanko Al-Makura (Nasarawa), Abdulfatah Ahmed (Kwara),Babatunde Fashola (Lagos), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Adams Oshiomhole (Edo), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Aliyu Wammako (Sokoto) and Rotimi Ameachi

(Rivers).

Following the swing of support by the majority of the APC governors in favour of Buhari, Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso who is the only other presidential aspirant from the same zone, north west as Buhari has been approached to step down.

The loss of ground among his fellow APC governors who were formally his primary support base has thus put pressure on Kwankwaso to throw in the towel and back Buhari.
