IEDPU Cautions Against Mob Actions
The Ilorin Emirate Descendants’ Progressive Union (IEDPU) yesterday frowned at activities of hoodlums and kidnappers in the state.
National president of the union, Alhaji Abdulhameed Adi, while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin, during the launch of the union’s magazine also cautioned against mob actions, urging residents of Ilorin and its environs to halt jungle justice usually dispensed on suspected kidnappers.
Daily Trust reports that lynching of suspected kidnappers has become rife in the state in recent times, with no fewer than four suspects lynched and set ablaze in a stretch of two weeks.
Adi urged residents of Ilorin, especially the youths to hand over any suspected kidnapper to law enforcement agents just as he charged security agents to be alive to their duty of ensuring security of lives and property. He appealed to security agencies in the country to intensify efforts at tackling security challenges confronting the country.
The president called for a security summit to address the problems and a seminar for youths to educate and sensitize them on how to ensure peaceful and harmonious co-existence.
The IEDPU president sympathized with the Borno State government and parents of the abducted students of Chibok secondary school and called for collective prayers by Nigerians to enable the country overcome the security challenges.
