Another kidnapper burnt in Ilorin, two escape.
Less than a week after a woman accused by a mob of kidnapping children was lynched along Emir’s Road in Ilorin, Kwara State, another woman was again burnt to death by an angry mob on Tuesday night in the ancient city over the same allegation.
Two others were also rescued by the prompt arrival of policemen from being lynched at the Saw Mill Garage area of the state capital on the same Tuesday, prompting the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Ambrose Aisabo to issue a warning against further descent into jungle justice by residents.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the first incident took place on the popular Oyun Bridge on the way to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital. The woman, who was burnt beyond recognition, was alleged to have ‘confessed’ that she was in league with a team of other kidnappers who had been given a mandate to kidnap a given number of children.
It was further claimed that the woman ‘confessed’ to have succeeded in kidnapping five children from the same area and was on the way to taking the sixth when some people who suspected her movements accosted her. Being unable to give satisfactory answers to their questions, they were said to have raised alarm which attracted a number of crowd who eventually lynched her.
