POLICE BEEF UP SECURITY AHEAD OF KWARA PDP CONGRESS

Date: 2014-04-15

Ahead of today’s congress of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, the state police command said it has deployed enough officers and men to provide security at the venues of the congress.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ambrose Aisabo, said the security arrangement would involve all the Area Commands in Ilorin to forestall breakdown of law and order as witnessed during last Monday’s ward congress of the party.

Daily Trust gathered that the congress to elect the state chairman of the party would be held in two venues- one for accreditation of delegates and other officials, while the actual congress would take place at another venue.

Speaking to our correspondent, the police commissioner said, “adequate personnel have been deployed to the two venues and other parts of the town to ensure that we would not experience what happened during the first ward congress”.

He warned members of the party to conduct themselves peacefully, saying police would not tolerate “irresponsibility, irresponsibility, intolerance, intimidation, thuggery and violence”.

“Of course you are aware that we have charged 14 of their so-called supporters to court on Thursday, last week. They are already in court”, he added.
