Union Issues 7-Day Ultimatum To Kwara Govt
The Committee of Unions of Tertiary Institutions (CUTI) in Kwara on Tuesday in Ilorin gave the state government a seven-day ultimatum to implement its requests or face industrial action.
The committee is the umbrella body of various unions in the Kwara-Government-owned Colleges of Education and College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies.
The ultimatum is contained in a notice dated Feb. 10, and addressed to Gov. Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed and signed by the General Secretary of the committee, Mr Oladele Olanipekun.
The document said the workers wanted the government to improve the state of infrastructure in the affected institutions and also review the condition of service of workers.
The document said that the union also wanted government to effect 65 years as the retirement age for non-teaching staff.
"It is worrisome to note that the infrastructure situation of our colleges has gone from bad to worse.
"This is as a result of non-funding and total neglect of these institutions over the years.
"You may wish to be informed that for about one decade and half, no college has benefited from capital grant of any kind from the government.
"We hereby strongly request that this demand be met without further delay.
"After over six years of government's reform programme in our colleges, it is worrisome that the reform is yet to key into the NCCE (National Commission for Colleges of Education) minimum standards. (NAN)
