Stakeholders chart new cause for Kwara United, ABS FC
The Kwara state Governor, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed and Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki have been commended for their commitment and support towards football development in Kwara state, even as they enjoined Kwara State Government to continue to support Kwara United and football development generally in the state, and at the same time urged Dr. Bukola Saraki to keep supporting ABSFC.
The commendation was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the football stakeholders meeting held at the Conference Room of the Sports Council on Wednesday.
Kwara State Football Association, in the nine-point communiqué drawn and signed by Dr.Isaac Oloruntoba (Chairman), Barr. Emmanuel Babarinsa, Alloy Chukwuemeka, Ademola Kiyesola and Jide Allen (secretary) apologised to the entire followers of football in the state and country behalf of Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin, for the ugly incident that led to the banishment of the team during the last soccer season.
The meeting described the relegation of Kwara United and Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Football Club as sad and unfortunate and urged the stakeholders to seek ways to address the issues that led to it, and also re-echoed the need to arrest and prosecute the culprits in the Kwara United versus Warri Wolves aborted match.
The meeting enjoined Kwara United and ABSFC as well as other clubs to see themselves as one in the spirit of sportsmanship, as they called for constant orientation and education of spectators and supporters in the area of peaceful conduct before, during and after matches.
The meeting called on government and football institutions in the state to engage professionals in the management and administration of football.
They congratulated Taiwo Awoniyi, a member of the victorious Golden Eaglets who is an indigene of kwara state and urged the state government to honour him.
