Gov. Ahmed guarantees free and fair local government election
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed, has assured Kwara State indigenes of a free and fair election, devoid of intimation, harassment, and other electoral malpractices.
Governor Ahmed, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, made the call at the fifteenth annual dinner of the Third Estate, Ilorin Emirate, a Non Governmental Organization, held at the Banquet Hall of the Kwara Hotel.
He called on the people of the state to come out en masse and participate in the forthcoming Local Government Elections in the State.
Governor Ahmed noted that the state government had put in place a joint security patrol team comprising of all the security agents known as " Operation Harmony" to tackle miscreants, robbery and other insecurity problems in the state.
He acknowledged the Third Estate for its truthfulness and its effort in developing the state, calling on other organizations, associations and stakeholders to partner with the government towards remodelling and ensuring that the state attains greater height.
In his speech, the Chairman of the Third Estate, Doctor Yusuf Lawal, gave the assurance that the Third Estate would continue to intervene only to complement government's efforts and called on government at all levels to continue to live up to their duties and responsibilities to the people.
Dr Lawal, urged government and well meaning indigenes to meet and proffer solution to the problem.
The Third Estate Chairman, said poverty is pervading the society, and appealed to the leaders to do the right things as enjoined by God and as enshrined in the constitution.
Dr Yusuf also called on the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union, all stakeholders in the Emirate, the Government and people of the State to adequately aggregate all the concerns and interests of the people, before articulating a fair representation that would make input on behalf of the state at the National Conference.
Delivering his lecture titled " University Education in Kwara State: the Role of the Kwara State University, the Vice Chancellor of the Kwara State University, Professor AbdulRasheed Na'Allah, emphasized the need for the town to work together to eradicate poverty and ignorance from the society.
He called on individuals, groups and stakeholders to collaborate with the Institution in form of endowments, scholarships and bursary for the students to pave the way for qualitative education.
