Kwara APC continues protests, Ahmed swears in LG boss

Date: 2013-09-04

Now fewer than 4,000 members and supporters of the All Progressive Congress at Offa Local Government Area and about 500 APC members  in Ilorin on Tuesday continued the party's  six day protest against the radio-announced purported result of the Offa LG rerun election, in which the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mr. Segun Olanipekun was declared winner.

The APC protesters matched along some streets and roads in Ilorin, including  near the palace of the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahimm Zulu Gambari and later to the Government House where security operatives refused them entry. At Offa, the protesters matched around many streets and roads in the area, denouncing Olanipekun as the chairman. They  called for the declaration and swearing in of the APC candidate, Mr. Saheed Popoola as the duly elected chairman.

While the protests were going on, the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed  swore in Olanipekun as the newly elected chairman of the Offa LG. Ahmed urged Olanipekun to take urgent steps to implement people-friendly programs to restore the people's faith in democratic governance.

He also charged Olanipekun to endeavor to provide transformational leadership, adding that he must make himself accessible, execute
faithfully all electioneering campaign promises and carry all stakeholders along in all his activities.
