Kwara United carpets Nasarawa United

Date: 2013-08-20

Irked by the unprofessional attitude of fans and supporters of Nasarawa United in their Week 26 Nigeria Premier League match, Kwara United have called on the League Management Company to closely monitor match proceedings as some clubs like Nasarawa United are ready to clinch maximum points by illegitimate means.

Kwara United media officer Prince Olayioye Ajide said Nasarawa United fans displayed fetish materials bringing pigs to the Kwara United bench knowing that Muslim players in the Kwara side are not comfortable seeing such animals around.

Ajide added that Kwara United goalkeeper trainer Tunji Shuaib was intimidated and his session with his goalkeepers before the match was disrupted because he could not bear what was being perpetuated by Nasarawa United supporters.

The Afonja Warriors' spokesman noted that at this crucial stage of the league, it is not good to encourage win-at-home syndrome even as match officials were helpless in the face of death threats.

He lamented the level of decadence that has beclouded the Nigerian league which often denies football followers the joy of watching the home league.

"It very unfortunate that we do experience unfriendly atmosphere, and reception in some centers like Lafia and Akure where visitors would get hostility in its highest order. I want to call on the league authority to beam their search light on every center to forestall future occurrence.

"That is the only way we can get a credible champion at the end of the season. Clubs must be discouraged from using everything they have to win matches especially at home. We have 12 games to go and they are crucial to how every team will finish on the table.

"Nigerian league should be improving at geometric rate and not at arithmetic progression and adequate security and other necessary provisions should be provided at match venues to ensure hitch-free games until the end of the season," said Ajide.

Olayioye noted that Kwara United will not be deterred with the intimidation but will do their best to qualify and play in the continent next year.

Kwara United are presently fourth on the log with 41 points.
