Offa council remains suspended as Kwara Gov reinstates Oyun
Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed at the weekend ordered the immediate reinstatement of the suspended Oyun council and the recall of the sole administrator, following the restoration of peace to the area.
Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Sola Isiaka Gold, who made the announcement in Ilorin, said the governor's decision to reinstate the council was in exercise of the powers conferred on him by the Kwara State Law No. 4 of 2006.
It would be recalled that both Oyun and Offa councils were dissolved in February 2013, following the resurgence of the Offa/Erin-Ile communal clash.
A statement by the governor's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Dr. Muideen Akorede, quoted the SSG as saying that though peace has also been restored in Offa, the council remains suspended as its election has been nullified by a court.
Offa is the only council being controlled by the opposition Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) out of the 16 local councils in the state.
The state Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) which has fixed October 26 for fresh local government election, said last week that it was studying the court judgement on Offa rerun.
