Gov. Ahmed vows to prosecute culprits of Offa/Erin-Ile violence

Date: 2013-06-03

Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed has said that the state government will ensure that all perpetrators and culprits of the recent violence in Offa, Offa Local Government Area and Erin-Ile, Oyun Local Government Area of the state are brought to book.

Many lives and valuable properties were lost during recent communal clashes in the affected areas of the state.

Ahmed, during 'The Governor Explains,' a monthly government public enlightenment programme in Ilorin on Friday, cautioned people against taking the laws into their hands and advised aggrieved people to seek redress in court.

He added that the government would ensure that the perpetrators were punished according to the law to serve as deterrent to prospective violent and criminally-minded people.

The governor said, "All those who have been found wanting in the crisis will be brought to book. All those that we require to enter into covenant will enter into covenant. Most importantly, those that have been found wanting on issues of criminality will be brought to book. Let nobody have any doubt about that.

"Those who have been arrested will be prosecuted in our proper court of law. Those who are still at large will be declared wanted and they must be brought to book. Criminality is not acceptable. Government will ensure that no stone is left unturned in allowing the full wrath of the law to take its cause to serve as a deterrent to prospective criminal people."
