Baraje Extols Democracy Despite Odds

Date: 2013-05-28

Nigeria's uninterrupted democratic rule has been described as the best system of government that has been experienced by Nigerians despite all odds.

As the nation celebrates its 14 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, the immediate past acting Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, said democracy in Nigeria had offered the citizens a voice to air their views without interference.

“It is a system that allows the dividends of democracy to be extended to all and sundry,” he says.

In Ilorin, Kwara State, Alhaji Baraje congratulated Nigerians on the Democracy Day celebration, stressing that what the people needed was patience and more understanding with the leaders.

He said that Nigeria as a nation had come to stay as one entity.

'Redeem electioneering pledges'

He urged those in the position of responsibility particularly politicians to always have the fear of God and redeem their electioneering pledges.

Alhaji Baraje, who is the current Chairman of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), urged those who still do not belief in the oneness of the country to have a change of mind and pray for a peaceful nation so that Nigeria would again be a great entity.

'Ingredient of peace'

The PDP Chieftain commended the efforts of President Jonathan and the Security Operatives for their frantic efforts in tackling insurgency particularly in the Northern part of the country.

Alhaji Baraje also congratulated the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed for what he described as unprecedented achievements in all sectors within the two years of his administration.

He praised Kwara indigenes for given his administration and the political leader of the state, Senator Bukola Saraki, the necessary support, which according to him, is an ingredient to peace in Kwara State.

Alhaji Baraje promised Nigerians that under his leadership as the new Chairman of the NRC, the rail system would improve considerably for the entire benefit of Nigerians.
