Farmer kills nephew over N1,500
The accused of Ndanaku village, via Lade, Kwara State, was said to have matcheted the 16-year-old deceased, Chumo Mohammed to death when a misunderstanding ensued between them.
The accused was arraigned on a one-count charge of culpable homicide, which contradicts Section 221 of Penal Code Law. The accused has since been ordered to be remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prison, Mandala, Ilorin.
The accused was arrested on May 5 following a report at Lade Division Police Station, Lade by the Sariki Fulani of Ndanaku village, Umar Abu that the accused killed his brother.
According to the complainant, there was a fracas between the accused and the deceased and as a result, the accused brought out his cutlass and matcheted his nephew to death.
Police First Information Report (FIR) on the matter stated that investigation conducted at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, revealed that the accused had callously killed his 16-year-old nephew over an issue of N1,500 which came up between them.
The Prosecutor, Inspector James Odaodu informed the court that investigation into the case was yet to be completed.
He objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison custody, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the investigation.
The trial magistrate, Mr. Joel O. Michael, who refused to take the plea of the accused for lack of jurisdiction, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Federal Medium Security Prison, Mandala, Ilorin, pending the outcome of the police investigation.
The case was adjourned till May 30, for further mention.
