Ahmed Charges Muslim Groups on Peace
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji (Dr) Abdulfatah Ahmed has commended the Council of Muslims Organization (CMO) for maintaining the peace in the state even as he urged the organization to continue in the same spirit.
Governor Ahmed made the commendation yesterday in his address at the presentation of prizes to winners of this year’s Islamic Quiz Competition, cum ‘Special Health Talk’, organized by the Council at Emir’s Palace Ilorin, the state capital.
The governor, who was the Special Guest of Honour at the occasion, called on members CMO to dissociate themselves from those unleashing terror on society under the name of religion.
“Kwara is known for peace and we want to call on CMO to look in to a situation where they will tell the world that the Muslims in Kwara are known for nothing but peace” the governor said.
Governor Ahmed, who spoke through the state commissioner for Commerce and Cooperatives, Alhaji Muhammed Raji, also disclosed government intention to encourage bilingual education in the state.
In his lecture, the guest speaker of the occasion, Alhaji Salim Wole Wole from Ibadan, Oyo State, enlightened the participants on type of foods and drinks expected of human beings to have a sound health.
He attributed unhealthy state of health of humans to the kind of food and drinks we are taking.
In his address, the Chairman of the occasion, Justice Mustapha Akanbi (Rtd), who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Mustapha Akanbi Foundation (MAF), Dr Mudashir Abdulsalam, described corruption as the major factor that is hampering growth and development in Nigeria.
He called on CMO to critically wage war against corrupt practices using the tenet of Islam as platform.
Also in his goodwill message, the pioneer Grand Khadi Kwara State Shariah Court, Justice AbdulKadir Orire, thanked CMO for their courage and commitment for making the competition an annual event.
In his welcome address, the coordinator of CMO, Professor Shehu Jimoh, appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to reexamine his position and create more realistic avenues for a permanent resolution to Boko Haram insurgency and other social crises in the country.
He however disclosed that the programme was the first edition of Islamic Quiz Competition among secondary schools, adding that 14 schools reached the finals in this year’s competition.
He added that the second part of the programme was a ‘Health Talk’ to further enlighten our people on how to live a healthy life.
Meanwhile, Government Day Secondary School Gaa-Akanbi has emerged winner of this year Islamic Quiz competition organized by Council of Muslim Organizations.
Omu-Aran High School in Irepodun local government area of the state came second while the third position went to Shamsudeen College of Arabic and Islamic Studies (CAIS), Ilorin.
