Ganmo: 2 policemen feared dead
In Kwara State, two policemen were feared dead yesterday in Ganmo, Ifelodun Local Government Area following a communal clash over chieftaincy issue.
The development threw the town into confusion and caused traffic gridlock on the Ilorin Omu- Aran Highway.
When the police spokesman, Mr. Olufemi Fabode, was contacted for comment over the incident, he did not pick his telephone calls.
National Mirror, however, learnt that grading and presentation of Staff of Office had been a contending issue in the town.
Sources said the grading of an Oluganna Stool to a fourth class status sparked off the bloody clash.
The state government recently announced the grading of Ganmo monarch, Oba Abdullahi Kolawole, to that status.
The government, in a move to avert crisis, reportedly postponed the presentation of the Staff of Office to the traditional ruler.
The descendants of Laderin, the son of Afonja in Idi-Ape quarters, Ilorin, had been claiming ownership of the ancient town which the Igbominas also lay claim to the land, which they said belong to their forefathers.
