Kwara Police Confirm Abduction of Igbesi Monarch, Rescue Operation Underway
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of the traditional ruler of Igbesi community in Isin Local Government Area of the state.
The monarch, Oba Moses Oyinloye Iwedunmoye I, the Kabiyesi Onigbesi of Igbesi land, was reportedly abducted when armed men invaded the community, located within the Oke-Onigbin area, at about 11pm on Saturday.
The Commissioner of Police in Kwara, Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident, saying efforts were underway to rescue the traditional ruler.
The Coordinator of Joint Security Watch, Kwara South, Comrade Zubair Olaitan, also confirmed the incident, saying a joint search and rescue operation had commenced.
According to him, the operation involves personnel from the Nigerian Army and Police, local vigilantes, hunters and members of Sunday Igboho's Iru-Ekun group.
The whereabouts of the monarch remained unknown as of the time of filing this report.
However, the Commissioner of Police clarified that no other person was abducted during the incident.
"Efforts are in top gear to rescue the victim," Ojo said.
The police commissioner also dismissed reports suggesting that there had been multiple attacks in the area within the past 24 hours.
"The narrative of attacks within the past 24 hours is far from the truth; nothing of such," he added.
Security agencies are expected to continue the search operation as efforts intensify to secure the safe release of the abducted monarch.
