Kwara PDP Speaks On Alleged Eviction From Secretariat Over Rent
The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Babatunde Muhammed, has said it was not true that the party was evicted from the property housing its secretariat in Ilorin, the state capital, over nonpayment of rent.
Speaking in Il?rin on Tuesday, Mohammed said the landlord gave the party a proper quit notice for personal reasons in August last year to vacate the property.
“But we finally vacated the property in December without owing a dime.
“The landlord had wanted us to vacate the property since 2018 but allowed us till last December because of the 2023 general elections”, he added.
Daily Trust reports that some members of the ruling party in the state had mocked the opposition party over the development, especially on various social media platforms.
But the PDP chairman said the ruling party has “the tendency to divert public attention from contentious state matters that had attracted a lot of backlash recently and found the rent issue convenient.”
The Publicity Secretary of the party, Olusegun Adewara, told our correspondent on the telephone Tuesday that the party is now using the ABS Mandate Office at Olorunsogo as its temporary secretariat.
