New Workers' Welfare Promotion Group Unveiled In Kwara
A new group, Nigerian Workers Group (NWG) committed to the promotion of issues affecting the welfare of the Nigerian workers was unveiled in Ilorin, Kwara State yesterday.
NWG is the membership arm of the Nigerian Workforce Strategy and Enlightenment Centre (NIWOSEC) which seeks to bring together Nigerian workers into a big network as partners in progress, but it's neither a labour union nor an affiliate of any labour union in the country.
Speaking during the unveiling of the NWG, its president, Dr David Ehindero said that,” the Nigerian Workers Group is committed to ensuring that all workers, regardless of their category, have access to labour- related services that will enhance their productivity and increase their standard of living.”
Lamenting that the Nigerian workforce, the most valuable resource Nigeria possesses is often neglected and untapped, Ehindero called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritize investment in the Nigerian workers.
He equally called on all employers of labour to treat their workers with respect and dignity and as well provide a safe and conducive work environment that promotes productivity and job satisfaction.
The NWG president added:” We believe that with the right investment in the Nigerian workforce, the nation can achieve great heights and compete favourably with other developed nations.
Also, the director of National Orientation Agency in Kwara State, Mr Olusegun Adeyemi, urged Nigerians to be patient with the federal government on the removal of fuel subsidy.
He also called on president Tinubu to address the ' japa syndrome' amongst Nigerians so that the nation's best brains can stay at home to contribute their quota to national development.
In his contribution, a motivational speaker,Mal Nasir AbdulKadir, said the removal of fuel subsidy is not a problem, but the utilisation of the proceeds from therein.
He charged president Tinubu to ensure prudency and accountability in the utilisation of the proceeds of subsidy withdrawal.
