Hoodlums injure firefighters, soldier in Kwara

Date: 2022-12-08

A soldier and two officials of the Kwara State Fire Service were on Tuesday injured by suspected hoodlums who attacked them while they carried out a rescue operation.

Soldiers and men of the state fire service were drafted to the K&R Filling Station, Oke Agodi, Ilorin, in the Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State to put out the raging fire that gutted the facility around 9.30pm.

The Head of Media and Publicity of the state fire service, Hassan Adekunle, said property estimated at about N21.7m was lost to the fire, while the estimated property saved from the inferno was put at N48.4m.

Adekunle said, “Yesterday, Tuesday, December 6, 2022, some hoodlums at Oke-Agodi Alfa Yahaya area of Ilorin attacked men of the Kwara State Fire Service and seriously injured two fire officers.

“One of the Nigerian Army team members was also hit in the head by the stones thrown by the hoodlums. In fact, the soldier was soaked in blood.

“Therefore, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa expressed sadness over the incident and described the people of Agodi area as very ungrateful for not appreciating the firemen's efforts.”
