FG Flood Relief: Kwara Votes N200m on Infrastructure.
Two Hundred Million Naira has been set aside for the rehabilitation of infrastructure by the Kwara state government out of the N300m Federal Government relief package for the recent flooding in the state. The Chairman of the State Committee on flood relief and rehabilitation, Alhaji Mohammed Dabarako, who disclosed this today at the presentation of items purchased from the federal government grant at the Palace of Emir of Shonga, said the remaining N100 million was used to purchase and distribute relief materials to affected communities in 5 local government areas of the state. According to him, part of the fund would be used to repair rural roads washed away as by the flood, repair of of electricity poles damaged by the flood in Patigi local government and villages in Edu and Moro local Government Area. Other interventions are the repair of damaged classrooms and the relocation of communities affected by the flood.
Dabarako, who is also Head of Service, commiserated with affected flood victims, said the relief materials were to provide immediate succour, adding that it is only God than can adequately comfort victims of the flooding. The team also visited the palace of the Etsu Tsaragi and Moro local government secretariat, Bode Saadu, where Dabarako gave further assurances of the state government's preparedness to support victims and their communities.
In his remark, the Special Adviser on Emergency and Relief Services, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi charged victims to make judicious use of the items and assured them that the State Government under the leadership of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed will continue to ensure the improvement in welfare of the victims
Earlier, the Emir of Shonga, Dr Haliru Yahyah, Etsu Tsaragi, Alhaji Aliyu kpotwa Abdullahi as well as Chairman of Moro logal government council, Alhaji Shuaib Baba Jimoh, in separate remarks, commended the federal and state government for their prompt response to the disaster through the provision of materials and infrastructure repair. They promised that the items, which include mattresses, rice, cement, textiles, nails, fishing nets and roofing materials, will be distributed to the victims judiciously
