Ekiti water corporation staff, four others bag jail terms for cybercrime in Ilorin

A 25-year-old employee of Ekiti State Water Corporation, Oyeyemi Akinluyi, has been jailed by a Federal high Court in Ilorin for alleged cybercrime offences.

Akinluyi, who hails from Ijan-Ekiti, was jailed by Justice Muhammed Sanni of the Federal high Court.

Four others jailed alongside Akinluyi are Ajibade Timileyin Emmanuel, Ezekiel Oluwaseun Temitope from Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State, Abbas Olatayo Ojo from Igbeti, Oyo state and one Kareem Quadri.

They were prosecuted on separate charges by the Ilorin Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, before different justices of both the Federal High Court and the Kwara State high court in Ilorin.

The defendants pleaded guilty to the charges preferred against them.

Delivering judgement, Justice Sanni sentenced the trio of Akinluyi, Emmanuel and Oluwaseun to six months jail term each with a N200,000 fine option each.

The judge also ordered the forfeiture of the convicts’ phone and laptop used to perpetrate the crime and restitution of their various victims.

Justice Akinpelu of the Kwara State high court in Ilorin, in her judgement on Olatayo and Quadri, sentenced each of them to six months jail.

Olatayo, was given an option of N150,000 fine on the lone count charge against him, while Quadri, got N150,000 fine option on each of the two counts preferred against him.

The trial judge also ordered the forfeiture of the convicts’ phones used in committing the crime to the Federal government, as well as the restitution of their various victims.
