Kwara Judiciary workers insist on CJ’s removal

Date: 2012-02-22

The strike action by judiciary workers in Kwara State, over the reinstatement of Justice Raliat Elelu as Chief Judge by the Supreme Court, entered its third day today, with the workers insisting that they will not return to work until the decision was rescinded. The workers, under the aegis of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, at a news conference in Ilorin, yesterday, cited the alleged anti-workers' stance of the Chief Judge as one of their reasons for the protest. Mrs Folake Laaro, leader of the union said: "While in office as Chief Judge of Kwara State, she demonstrated hatred for the welfare and progress of the workers. "His Lordship was fond of harassing and intimidating workers, especially those working with her. "Similarly, it was very common for his Lordship to deliberately deny workers of their legitimate rights and privileges." , even though this is one of the fundamental qualities of a progressive judicial officer."
