Kwara Governor-elect promises to run people-oriented administration

Kwara State Governor-Elect, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq said on Thursday that he would serve the best interest of Kwara State people and would run a people-oriented government.

Abdulrazaq made the promise in Ilorin at the inauguration of an 80-member Transition Committee.

"The huge margin of our victory at the polls suggests that our people are fed up with the status quo and want a new approach to governance.

"We, therefore, have a duty to serve the best interest of the people and run a people-oriented government," he said.

The governor-elect said that his team would study the current governance structure to understand areas of immediate concern.

"We must understand the current governance structure in the state; we must know how the current system works in order to know where to begin.

"We must identify those policies that can be retained and those that must be dropped, We also need to know what is in the books in terms of financial receipts, obligations, contracts and other things," he said.

According to him, members of the transition committee were carefully selected taking into cognisance their competence, credibility and maturity.

"The most crucial work of this committee is to ensure we hit the ground running on May 29, so you should discharge your duties diligently," he said.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the committee, Aminu Adisa-Logun said their job was to bridge the gap between the outgoing and the incoming governments.

"The transition committee is not a scouting committee to suggest or recruit personnel for the governor.

"Our duty is to highlight what needs to be done in line with the change mantra of the government.

"Our duty is mostly technical, such as gathering and interpreting data for the new government in its bid to serve the people of the state," Adisa-Logun said. He thanked the Governor-elect for nominating them for the crucial assignment. The All Progressives Congress Chairman in the state, Bashiru Bolarinwa, said the incoming government would be a departure from the past.

He said that "conscious efforts are being made to carry everyone along." (NAN)
