Date: 2019-02-23

The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, has commended the massive turnout of voters in Ilorin, the Kwara capital.

Saraki gave the commendation after casting his vote at Ode Opobiyi 1 Polling Unit in Ajikobi Ward of Ilorin West Local Government Area of the state. He said inspite of the frustration of election postponement, Nigerians' resolve to come out indicated their readiness to elect those who would manage the affairs of the country.

Saraki also urged INEC to ensure that the few hitches identified were the resolved before the end of voting processes.

"Nigerians have shown that they want to participate and INEC must show that back to them by ensuring they deliver an efficient elections," he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Saraki is seeking re-election into the Senate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His All Progressives Congress (APC) counterpart for Kwara Central Senatorial District, Dr Ibrahim Oloriegbe, also said the turnout of voters was massive.

He had voted at Unit 008 Ògidì Ward Polling Unit.

Oloriegbe, however, expressed disappointment over the slow pace of the electoral process and urged INEC to address this.

"The card reader has been slow and we hope that something can be done by INEC to address it.

"The card reader failed many of us in terms of authentication and I insisted that they explain to us whether they are using manual or not because the corps members cannot explain it.

"When I came here, I had to call the Election Officer (EO), to ensure that the card reader challenge was addressed, " Oloriegbe said. (NAN)
