Foundation to carry out free eye surgery for 250 kwarans in March

Date: 2018-02-19

An Ilorin-based Non Governmental Organisation, Mohammed Ajia Ibrahim (MAI) Foundation has fixed the third of March, this year to conduct free eye treatment for residents of Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

About 250 people are being targeted to benefit from the first phase of the eye test that would cater for cataract, glaucoma and other related eye problems.

The founder of the MAI Foundation, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Ajia, told Journalists in Ilorin at the weekend that the treatment has been decentralised to ensure that the exercise was conducted devoid of hitches.

According to him, the free eye test would take place at the Forecourt of the Emir of Ilorin's Palace, Magaji Ngeri Ward and MAI Foundation contact office along Fate Road, Ilorin.

He said beneficiaries of the treatment would also receive free eye glasses after surgery have been carried out on their sights.

Alhaji Ajia informed that the eye treatment, which would be conducted in conjunction with a team of medical consultants, would spread across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state in subsequent phases.

He bemoaned the fate of people with sight challenges, explaining that cases relating to eye problem were on the rise.

The MAI founder said his foundation decided to undertake the free eye treatment to bring succour to the needy and complement effort of the government.

"As a non governmental organisation, we feel very disturbed with the rising incidences of sight problems among our people. Some of these people required little resources to attend to the eye problems but because they didn't have the means, they resigned to fate.

Aljaji Ajia disclosed that his foundation also donated the sum of N3.5million to Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA) as part of its humanitarian services.
