The outbreak of Cholera disease in parts of Ilorin in the past week can be traced to poor source of water, unclean environment and poor personal hygiene.

The Initiator of Goal-Getters Initiative, Kayode Oyin-Zubair in a statement in Ilorin on Monday said his group has always been worried with the poor source of water in Kwara communities.

"Our intervention in provision of water and rehabilitation of existing hand pump boreholes in Kwara rural communities are to bridge the lacuna created by the neglect of existing safe water sources built by past governments and development partners such as UNDP, UNICEF, ESSPIN, MIDDLE BELT Etc.

" We have in the last 56 days repaired 65 hand pump boreholes in 5 local government areas of the state and trained 48 young men in the art of repairing hand pump boreholes in more than 38 communities.

"We are confident in God that our intervention in those communities and follow-up by our hand pump borehole technicians, cholera and other water borne diseases will never be seen in those communities". He enthused.

In a similar vein he urged Kwara residents to take the fight against cholera and other water borne diseases very seriously and reminded government to roll up its sleeves in preventing its spread.
