Borgu monarch asks FG to fix Wawa/Kaiama Road The Federal Govern­ment has been urged to ex-pedite action towards rehabilitating the Wawa-Kaiama Road which connects communities in Niger and Kwara States to further boost economic activities.

The Emir of Borgu in Niger State, Barrister Mu­hammed Sanni Dantoro, stated this at the weekend when he paid a courtesy visit on the Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfa­tah Ahmed at the Govern­ment House, Ilorin.

He noted that his visit was to strengthen the bond between the people of Bor­gu Kingdom and their kith and kins in Kwara State as well as also seek necessary interventions from the Federal Government on the road projects.

He also urged the politi­cal class to ensure that na­tional unity was not jeop­ardized as "the unity of this country is paramount for national development". In his remarks, Governor Ahmed urged Nigerians to see the prevailing recession in the national economy as the best opportunity for self and national discovery.

Ahmed, who noted that since the recession came with a lot of economic and social challenges, it was important that Nigerians remained strengthened and focused on the need to overcome the recession, recalling that many de­veloped countries of the world, including the United States of America, Germany, Canada, Spain and Ire­land, have had recessions and came out of it stron­ger.

Dr. Ahmed suggested that to hasten the recovery, diversifi-cation of the econ­omy through agricultural development is the pana­cea.

"We must take advantage of God given opportuni­ties. This is the best time to do it. When you are in a re­cession, take advantage of yourselves and move on as a country", he said.

He however called for agricultural development synergy between Borgu Emirate in Niger State and Baruten and Kaiama local government areas of Kwara State in the drive for the diversifica-tion of national economy.
