Oniye Family to Drag IBEDC to Court
BARRING any last minute change of mind, the Oniye family in Ilorin, Kwara State Capital, may drag the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to court over alleged negligence which caused the death of Abdulrasheed Oniye, a staff of the company while on duty.
It would be recalled that Oniye was electrocuted last Thursday, while working on an electric pole at the IBEDC transmission sub-station, Saw Mill, Ilorin preparatory to installation of a circuit breaker in the sub-station.
The late staff of the company who was on holiday was said to have been called for the emergency assignment at the sub-station which eventually terminated his life. Family sources informed that the deceased had just completed and packed to his new house shortly before the fatal assignment which was suspected to have been caused by alleged negligence.
Late Oniye was carrying out the assignment with other workers and technicians of the company when he was electrocuted on duty at the sub-station. A family source said the mystery surrounding the death of Oniye was in explicable, hence the decision by the family to resolve the matter in court and secure justice because of the sanctity of life involved.
The court action according to a source would serve as determent and a lesson to IBEDC to take the issue of security of staff's lives seriously and not to concentrate on monetary gains alone.
Meanwhile, the father of the deceased, and Makama of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye has continued to receive sympathizers at his Eruda quarters, Ilorin following the tragic incident which led to the death of Abdulrasheed Oniye.
During a condolence visit to his house yesterday by the General Managers of Radio Kwara and The Herald Newspapers, Alhaji Abdullateef Adebowale Adedeji and Alhaji Abdulrazaq Adebayo, along with the Corporation Secretary of Radio Kwara, Alhaji Saeed Haliru, the Makama prayed for the visitors and the deceased asking God to forgive his sins and grant him Aljanat fidaus.
