Tricycle Operators Pledge to Maintain Peace in Kwara
Commercial tricycle operators in Kwara have pledged to operate peacefully within the State. This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the Peace meeting at the Government House, Ilorin on Thursday. The Committee, chaired by the Special Adviser to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Labour Matters, Barr. Gobir Ahmed resolved that all existing unions operating under NURTW and RTEAN be maintained.
According to the communique, all operators within the state have agreed to operate under an umbrella body, Tricycle Owners Association (TOA), which is affiliated to the Trade Union Congress (TUC). The Committee said this directive was given in order to avert any possible crisis that may erupt among the tricycle operators over the alleged certification of some group of people intending to operate under the name ABS.
All tricycles operating within the borders of the State have also been directed to register with the Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) on or before 1 April, 2016. It was also agreed that anybody or group of people who want to operate tricycle that is Keke Bukola as commercial should approach any of the unions which have been plying the route before, for an infusion into the existing union.
