KWSG enjoins NYSC to use entrepreneurship skills to be self-reliant
The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed has enjoined members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to apply the Entrepreneurship Skills acquired during their orientation to become self-reliant and resourceful.
The Governor gave the advice in an address delivered on his behalf by the Head of Service (HOS), Hajia Zahra Omar at the closing ceremony of the 2015 batch '8? stream II orientation course at the NYSC orientation camp, Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.
He said it has become necessary for the Corps members to put into practice the necessary entrepreneurship skill acquired through the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme in order to survive in today's world.
The governor stated that it was imperative for the NYSC members to look inward and not depend on the government to provide jobs in view of the fact that "we are at a time where white collar jobs are decreasing everyday".
According to him, Micro Small and Medium Scale enterprises are vital building blocks in economic development because of their contribution to economic output noting that in the European Union, Small and Medium sized enterprises represent 99% of all enterprises which, he said, provide 90 million jobs and contribute to entrepreneurship and innovation.
He added that in China, Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) provide 75% of urban employment while stressing in Nigeria, the SME sector provides 50% employment thereby encouraging the members of the NYSC to write business plan and start a business of their own that will help in curbing unemployment in Nigeria.
Governor Ahmed assured of his administration's continuous commitment and support to young entrepreneurs thereby urging them to take advantage of his administration credit schemes in order to finance their business.
