Okorie Condemns Stoning of Saraki
Presidential candidate of the United Progressives Party (UPP) in the last general elections, Chief Chekwas Okorie, has condemned the alleged stoning of the Senate President Bukola Saraki at an Eid ground in Ilorin, Kwara State.
He described the development as unfortunate and barbaric.
Okorie said stoning Saraki on issues relating to Kwara State government was misplaced aggression and cannot do any good.
According to him, attacking people in position of authority will further trigger violence, which he said is not healthy for the country's democracy.
"I find it very disturbing. Nigeria cannot make positive progress if we continue like this. Reacting in that manner can cause more violence. Using the occasion of Eid-el Kabir to stone the Senate President is not healthy for democracy," he said.
Similarly, the national chairman of National Conscience Party (NCP), and former chairman of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Dr. Yunusa Tanko also said stoning of the number three citizen of Nigeria was an act that should be condemned by all.
He said people should find decent ways of ventilating their anger and not going into things that will send wrong signals in the polity. No matter how it is, stoning of a Senate President is not proper."
