Saraki: Kwara APC moves to Abuja as loyalists intensify prayers
Members of the Kwara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are in Abuja to give their support to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, over his travails at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Daily Trust gathered that all the officials of the party in the state travelled to Abuja to show loyalty to the Saraki.
A source close to the party revealed that the officials and other stakeholders were worried over the case, a development that prompted all of them to shelve their official engagements for the trip to Abuja.
Similarly, in Kwara, the home state of the Senate president, some of his supporters have organised prayer sessions for him to be vindicated. "The warrant against our leader is unjust and I believe some politicians who do not want Saraki in that position are behind everything," one of his admirers said.
An angry resident said Saraki's predicament would delay the appointment of commissioners in the state by Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.
"We knew there will be slow pace of governance in the state since Saraki indicated his interest in becoming the Senate president, but we were relieved when he won the election. However, with this development, everything will stand still in Kwara."
In his reaction, Chief Rex Olawoye, the public relations officer (PRP) of the Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), described the CCT stand on Saraki as a very interesting development in Nigeria, saying: "If Saraki is able to bring himself out of the crisis, I will congratulate him. But, as a man from Kwara, I will advise him to resign his appointment as Senate president because a good name is better than silver and gold.
"He should cooperate with his party and leave honourably. Whether we like it or not, history will always remember him because, no matter how short he led the Senate, he is already president of the Senate. The table is set to destroy him politically and he should not allow himself to be destroyed. I will advise him to resign."
Reacting, Alhaji Abdulhamid Adi, the national president of Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU), who described Saraki's case at CCT as a political victimisation, said the anti-corruption fight should not be selective.
