Kwara PDP threatens court action over Ahmed's cabinet
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has threatened to sue Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed over his delay in appointing commissioners and others.
The party chairman, Chief Iyiola Oyedepo, said the non-appointment of commissioners was an abuse of constitution, saying the party would soon go to court over it.
Daily Trust reports that the state governor has only made few appointments, including that of the Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff, personal assistant and two media aides since assumption of office.
Commissioners, special advisers, assistants as well as chairmen and members of the boards of agencies and parastatals have not been appointed. This appears to be the case in 18 other states of the federation.
Reacting to the issue, the chairman told Daily Trust correspondent that Ahmed, being a second timer, had no excuse not to have appointed commissioners.
"If it is allowed to persist, it can breed autocracy and fraudulent practices as the work to be done by many is done by one. That one spends all the money too. An old timer governor has no excuse not to appoint commissioners. We shall soon go to court", he said.
Reacting, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman, Mr Ishola Balogun-Fulani, said the APC has no ground to take the party to court, saying it is the governor's prerogative to appoint commissioners.
He explained that the governor was working to select the best to man key ministries and agencies of government, saying that it is not the business of the opposition party.
The governor's Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Dr. Muideen Akorede, had told Daily Trust that the appointment of political officeholders was still under considerations.
