The President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, is expected to inaugurate Muslim Community of Lagos State (MCLS) on today.

Also, the Lagos State Governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola is to be the Special Guest of Honour at the memorable event at the Lagos Central Mosque.

Speaking at the Lagos Central Mosque, the President of MCLS, Prof. Tajudeen Gbadebo Gbadamosi, revealed that the Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu, is to be the royal host, while the retired Inspector-General of Police, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, is to be the chairman of the occasion.

The inauguration which will feature a lecture with a captivating title 'Muslims as Drivers of National Development' will have the Prof Ishaq Oloyede, the former Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, as the Guest Lecturer at the occasion.

Speaking on the aims of the umbrella body, Prof Gbadamosi said MCLS is designed to strengthen the unity of Muslims and accelerate the progress of all Muslims and to unreservedly promote the doctrine of oneness of Allah and other ideals of Islam.

Others are, to establish a collective leadership that is inclusive, credible, responsive and effective for Muslims in Lagos State and Nigeria in general, protect the rights of Muslims and facilitate for the creation of an enabling environment for the actualization of the observance of these rights guaranteed by the constitution and any other relevant laws.

It would will be recalled that MCLS was the muslim organization that championed the fight against the promulgation of coroner law by the Lagos State House of Assembly which banned the immediate burial of dead person in the State.
