FG may adopt Kwara's health model

Date: 2012-05-17

Bouyed by the success of Kwara State community health programme, the Federal Government may adopt the blueprint of the state's health sector in order to effectively spread its health policies to the grassroots.

The Kwaran example involved three bodies, who yearly subsidised the health finances incurred by the beneficiaries of the programme, majority of who are rural dwellers.

The sponsors under the tripartite deal are the state government, Hygeia Health and PharmAccess Foundation both of Netherlands.

According to the representative of the PharmAccess in Nigeria, Anton Pruijssers, yesterday in Ilorin during the fifth year anniversary of the programme in Kwara, said the office of the Minister of State for Health had already contacted the service provider on how the ministry could adopt the policy.

The health scheme, which started at Shonga in Edu Local Council Area five years ago, had since spread to over nine councils out of the existing 16 in the state.
