Unilorin deputy VC says Nigeria ripe for e-voting
The time is now ripe for Nigeria to adopt electronic voting for the conduct of general elections, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Professor Yisa Fakunle, has said.
He said the electronic voting system is "simple" and that the university would be ready to assist Nigeria in that regard.
Fakunle, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Service) of the university who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, spoke at the inauguration of the newly elected executives of the Postgraduate Students' Association (POGSASS).
The election was conducted through e-voting just like the students' union election. The e-voting system was introduced in the university some years ago.
Speaking with newsmen after the inauguration, the DVC hailed the conduct of the election which he said was a challenge to Nigeria to equally adopt the e-voting system.
"Nigeria is ripe for e-voting. University of Ilorin has done it twice. If a unit within a country can successfully do it, there is no reason why the country cannot. If they have any problem, they can come and understudy how we do it in Unilorin," he said.
